Why does frottage appeal to so many guys?
I have a theory that is at least partially supported by research dating back to 1948 by Alfred Kinsey and several others since his early ground-breaking research. Sexual attraction is not an either/or proposition. Many men have some level of attraction to other men. That attraction can range from congenial fondness to outright sexual attraction. Most men never act on their attraction to other men due to deeply held cultural convictions forbidding sexual expression between males or even the appearance of anything sexual.
Kinsey’s early work indicated 50-60 percent of men experience sexual feelings for other men. Openly gay men who are exclusively homosexual represent only a small percentage of same-sex-attracted men.
Of the men for whom sexual attraction is strong but not strong enough to prompt open sexual expression toward other men, frottage seems to have a high level of appeal. I have found this especially true among guys who identify themselves as bisexual.
Many men find anal sex repulsive for any number of reasons. As an outspoken proponent of frottage and at times, militant critic of anal sex, even I am surprised at the number of same-sex-attracted guys who are repulsed by the whole idea of anal sex.
The anus is highly efficient at eliminating solid waste from the body and spreading disease. The logistics of performing anal sex are distracting and quite anti-romantic. The practice of frot, on the other hand, does not require either man submit to the other or risk getting residual feces on one’s cock . The practice of submitting to another man is emasculating and feels unnatural and downright nasty to a lot of men.
Mainstream gay culture is heavily influenced by radical feminism and I’m sure my commentary will prompt the predictable diatribe and accusations of hegemonic masculinity. My interest is not in converting gay men into Frot Brothers. In fact, I have no interest in the gay community whatsoever. My intention is to help men understand that there is an army of guys out there who share a sexual attraction to other men but don’t have the slightest interest in anal sex. Same-sex-attraction does not imply an interest in anal sex.
